New York City Mayor says that explosion that rocked New York City and injured 29 is not intentional act

An explosion that rocked Manhattan's Chelsea neighbourhood and injured at least 29 people appears to have been "an intentional act" -- but not related to terrorism, according to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The cause of the explosion has not been determined, said New York City police commissioner James O'Neill. The explosion, which seriously injured at least one person, happened on West 23rd Street late Saturday in an area frequented by shoppers and diners.

"New York City experienced a very bad incident," de Blasio said at a news conference. "We have no credible and specific threat at this moment."

A possible secondary device was located a few blocks away on 27th Street, between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue, the NYPD Special Operations Division said at 11 p.m. The device, a pressure cooker, was removed by authorities. It was in a white plastic bag with tape, wiring and a cell phone or other electronic device.

Police said the device was to be detonated at the NYPD's firing range in the Bronx. Police had earlier advised residents on the block where the device was found to stay away from windows facing 27th Street.

There were other suspicious packages and incidents in the area since the pressure cooker was discovered, but they were deemed not dangerous, police said.

Bomb-sniffing dogs deployed in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood after reported explosion.

The explosion on 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues was seen by police officers driving by about 8:30 p.m., according to police. The fire department heard the explosion and responded immediately.

Officials said the NYPD has video it is reviewing and De Blasio urged any witnesses or people who may have information to come forward.

Two law enforcement sources said the explosion occurred in a dumpster, and the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau tweeted a photo of a mangled dumpster after saying they were responding to the explosion.

The NYPD Bomb Squad was searching the area and checking garbage cans for any other possible explosive devices.

The FBI and Homeland Security officials, along with the ATF arson and explosive task force were also at the scene.

Surveillance video recovered from West 23rd Street shows the explosion and contains other evidence that indicates to investigators the original object was intentionally left next to the construction trash container, described as 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 3 ft. in size.

In one video obtained by police, a man is seen crossing the street in the vicinity of where the original object was left. The trash container was blown clear into the street by the force of the blast.

The object left behind could be a large tool box, left next to one of the several commercial trash containers in front of a building that has been under construction. Investigators are trying to determine if there is a connection to this seemingly "random construction site."

The explosion even startled residents who were a few blocks away. Chelsea resident Michelle Leifer was walking her dog in Madison Square Park when she heard a loud boom and rumbling. "I heard a loud boom and felt rumbling," she tells ABC News. "I wasn't sure if it was an explosion or if a large truck had gone by. One of the park's maintenance men came in and said he got an alert on his phone that there was an explosion on 23rd and 6th. As I was leaving the park, I saw a smoke cloud hovering in that area. Then police cars and firetrucks started streaming in."

Meanwhile, a "possible secondary device" was located a few blocks away on 27th Street, between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue, the NYPD Special Operations Division said around 11 p.m. The device, a pressure cooker, was removed by authorities. The device was in a white plastic bag with tape, wiring and a cell phone or other electronic device.

The explosion occurred one day after O'Neill was sworn as the new police commissioner following Bill Bratton's retirement.

The mayor said the Chelsea explosion has no apparent connection to the explosive device that detonated in Seaside Park, New Jersey, Saturday morning. Nobody was injured in the New Jersey incident, which occurred at a time when a 5k run to benefit U.S. Marines and sailors was scheduled, but the race was delayed because so many runners had signed up.

Video: It will take United States of America 100 years to recover from Trump's damages, if he becomes the president

It is only in the United State I have heard that all people have right to own a gun. United State of America's government have been striving and struggling to put a limit to "right to gun."  But Trump has been supporting that everybody must have right to gun since he started campaigning and encouraging people to have guns. What kind of right is that.?
Why should a normal civilians have right to guns, when you are not in the military, police, secret agents and other paramilitary. It will get to a stage in the US, whereby people will start shooting at each other after unserious and serious arguments. Trump has created more violence and hatred since he started campaigning. More people now  hating at each other in the U.S, many people are now like "I am gonna shoot you, if I see you in person," because everybody has a gun. All Americans should understand that Trump is not the right person for them. It is not about Clinton. Republicans would have been in a good position to win this election, if they had a right candidate to contest against Clinton. Trump is out of manner. I am categorically telling you that Trump doesn't like you, he hates you, but pretending and forced to meet some of you, because he is desperate to become the commander in Chief. He is not the type of person who wants to meet you. He is going to isolate United State from the world like North Korea is isolated at the moment, if he becomes the president. please don't make mistake by voting him in.  He is not going to make America great again, because United States of America has been a great country for more than 70 years, I want many of you to visit Africa, Asia, Europe, if you don't believe me that America has been a great nation for decades. I want you all to know that America is already great, neither Trump or Clinton will make America great again. United States of America is a great country. What America and Americans needs is to continue as a United Country, don't allow a man with hatred to become your president. He has hatred and discrimination in his blood stream, has hates many of you, many races in the U.S, he hates neighbouring countries and many countries in the world. He is going to destroy America, Americans and it will affect the world negatively.

It is going to hurt me, you Americans and many people who are not Americans and don't live in the United States, if Trump wins November election. Please, I am urging all Americans to ignore Trump, vote for third party, if you can't vote for Clinton. I want you all Americans to know that you and your country are more than Trump and Clinton, please do not allow Trump to create more hatred and violence amongst you citizens of United States. Trump's campaign takes United State of America back to more than 100 years ago when there was so much hatred amongst people in the United States, which eventually led to killing each other everyday. Trump will do more than that, if he becomes the President of the United State, he will support hatred and other negative things. He will put USA at big risk. It will take United State 100 years to recover  from Trump's damages, if he becomes the President of the United State of America. Please, i am urging all Americans not to make mistake, please do not trust Trump. Republicans and Democrat are not the only political parties in the United State, vote for other parties, if you people are confused. This election is not all about them. It is about you, your family and your generations to come. Please, ignore Trump. Vote wisely and don't vote for Trump.

Death toll from Pakistan suicide bombing rises to 37

A Pakistani official says the death toll from a suicide bombing at a mosque has risen to 36 after several of those wounded in the attack died in hospitals.

Pashin Gul, the head of the tribal police in the northwestern Mohmand region, provided the updated toll on Saturday, a day after the bombing. Several children were among those killed and wounded in the attack, which targeted weekly Friday prayers.

The initial toll provided by officials was 24 dead and 28 wounded. Some 200 worshippers were inside the mosque when the bomber struck.

A breakaway Taliban faction knows as Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying it targeted members of a pro-government militia. According to reports from Pakistan.

Intermittent shelling and clashes resumed overnight in Syria, According to monitor

Intermittent shelling and clashes resumed overnight in Syria, a monitor said on Saturday, testing a strained truce brokered by Russia and the United States.

An initial 48-hour ceasefire came into force on Monday evening, and was extended for another two days on Wednesday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, "limited shelling and clashes have resumed on several fronts in Syria."

In particular, fighting erupted between rebels and pro-regime forces in the opposition-held suburb of Eastern Ghouta, near Damascus, and air strikes hit several towns in the central province of Homs.

In the coastal province of Latakia, fresh regime air strikes hit rebel groups, including fighters from Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate, in the flashpoint region of Jabal Akrad.

"So far, Aleppo city is still the calmest of them all," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

Under the truce deal negotiated by Moscow and Washington, fighting is to halt across the country except in areas where jihadists are present.

Aid is then meant to reach battered Aleppo, where an estimated 250,000 people in the rebel-held half of the city are living under government siege.

But forty trucks carrying desperately-needed food aid were still stuck on the border with Turkey on Saturday.

"Still no progress, but the UN is ready to move once we get the go ahead," said David Swanson, a spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The UN has said it cannot deliver aid until "all guarantees are in place for safe delivery."

AFP's correspondent in Aleppo's eastern districts said the city was calm on Saturday after a few rocket attacks overnight.

On Friday, Russia said that only Moscow and the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad were fulfilling their obligations under the deal.

"Although the ceasefire agreement is bilateral, only one side is truly implementing it," defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

Russia said it was ready to extend the truce by 72 hours, but no formal extension announcement followed.

More than 300,000 people have been killed since Syria's conflict erupted in March 2011, beginning with anti-government protests that evolved into a multi-front war.

President Buhari promised to punish those responsible for plagiarizing President Obama 2008 victory speech

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari apologized Saturday for plagiarizing President Barack Obama's 2008 victory speech and said he will punish those responsible.

The announcement came as Obama is set to meet Buhari, the leader of Africa's largest economy and most populous country, next week in New York.

Adeola Akinremi in her Friday column for ThisDay newspaper denounced "the moral problem of plagiarism on a day Mr. President launched a campaign to demand honesty and integrity."

Several lines were almost identical to Obama's in a speech Buhari made Sept. 8 launching his campaign "Change Begins With Me." The campaign promotes a new way of thinking to rid Nigeria of widespread corruption.

Buhari said, "We must resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship, pettiness and immaturity that have poisoned our country for so long. Let us summon a new spirit of responsibility, spirit of service, of patriotism and sacrifice. Let us all resolve to pitch in and work hard and look after, not only ourselves, but one another."

Obama said, "So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. "

Obama will meet with Buhari on Tuesday during the U.N. General Assembly session, the White House said Friday. They are expected to discuss U.S. support for security and economic changes in Nigeria and efforts to curb the Boko Haram Islamic uprising.

Obama also plans to promote U.S. Africa trade on Wednesday, attending a summit with some 200 U.S. and African CEOs and African heads of state.

Facebook gives a summary about its plan to insert ads into Live videos

Facebook knows you like live video and it’s pretty sure that you won’t mind if those real-time clips start playing automatically with audio, then have ads appear in the middle.

Facebook product director Fidji Simo revealed the new details about the social network’s video strategy during in an interview  with CNN’s social-news director Samantha Barry here at the Online News Association’s conference. Barry was less successful in getting Simo to explain the complex relationship status between Facebook (FB) and news organizations.

Live a product that Facebook launched only last August as a celebrities-only feature, but which now stands as a key part of its strategy took up much of Simo’s time.

Facebook takes Live seriously enough to pay some sites and social-media stars to stream Live video. But it also stumbled badly when it took down the video of Philando Castile’s death after he was shot by a police officer.

Simo said Facebook has to decide if videos of violence glorify it or report it. If the video is reporting on violence, Facebook will keep the clip but add a warning, disable it from playing automatically and hide it from users under 18.

Simo added that the company has teams of people working worldwide around the clock to police videos.

When asked by Barry if the News Feed will become all video something a Facebook executive said could happen within five years. Simo said it won’t be entirely video, but will definitely feature a lot more, much of it 360-degree, virtual-reality clips.

“You want to feel like you are part of the action,” she said.

At some point, you may be able to watch Facebook video on a media player like a Roku, depending on how many people take advantage of a new option to cast it to an Apple TV or a Chromecast.

Facebook is also considering two changes that may not earn many Likes. One is inserting “mid-roll” ads into video streams, which Facebook plans to bring to Live this year and may add to non-Live videos later on. “People really understand the concept,” she said.

The other is having video play automatically with the sound on today, it autoplays silently. As a result, only 50% of the time spent watching video on Facebook involves audio.

Simo said the company is running a test to turn sound on by default in News Feed. “We think that actually could be a much better experience.”

(Yes, I’m aware that Yahoo Finance stories sometimes feature videos that automatically play with the sound on.)

Simo also offered two tips about using Live well: Offer some suspense (she cited police chases and stormy weather but somehow did not mention BuzzFeed exploding a watermelon by tying rubber bands around it), and have the stream run at least 10 minutes to give your audience time to find it.

Worries over the Trending list

Simo was at her least helpful when Barry asked if Facebook has become a media company, something founder Mark Zuckerberg recently denied. She repeated that denial, explaining that Facebook doesn’t create content of its own.

But after saying that “we play a big role in the media industry, and we take that responsibility very seriously,” she touched on the various ways Facebook does not let the News Feed run itself.

Facebook has repeatedly changed the algorithms that determine what shows up in each person’s Feed to try to address what its users want and to make life harder for clickbait and falsehoods.

“We care a lot about making sure that what’s shared on Facebook is authentic,” she said.

We have a word in journalism for that sort of involved attention to what a reader sees: editing.

Barry quizzed Simo at length about the part of the News Feed that looks most like a news site: Facebook’s list of trending stories. It’s been in the news itself lately, and not in good ways. First, conservative critics accused Facebook of burying stories hostile to Democrats, then Trending publicized a few phony stories.

“We do not want any fake news trending,” Simo said. “We know we’re not where we want to be.”

But this isn’t a problem Facebook plans to solve by hiring more people, she added — that would be too hard for a product that must work worldwide (Yes, that’s the opposite of what Simo said about policing Live videos.) Instead, the company is betting on smarter algorithms and better tools for users to flag fake stories.
