Video: Suspect in New York, New Jersey Bombings Arrested After Shootout

Ahmad Khan Rahami, the 28-year-old suspect in the bombings in New York City and New Jersey over the weekend, was taken into custody after a shootout with police in Linden, N.J., on Monday morning, local reports said. At least one police officer was wounded during Rahami’s arrest.

ABC’s New York affiliate captured images of the Rahami as he was taken away from the scene in an ambulance. He appeared to have been shot in the right arm.

“We want to get this guy in for questioning,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on CNN earlier Monday. “I think we’re going to know a lot more in the course of the day. Things are moving very quickly.”

According to the New York Times, Rahami’s father runs a fried chicken restaurant in Elizabeth where he and his brothers also worked. Patrons described Rahami as “friendly.”

Rahami also has “a passion for Honda Civics custom-built to race,” the Times reported.

On Sunday night, FBI agents in Brooklyn stopped “a vehicle of interest” in the investigation of the Manhattan explosion, according to FBI spokeswoman Kelly Langmesser.

According to the Associated Press, five people in the car were being questioned at an FBI building in Manhattan.

Sources said Rahami was taken into custody in Linden, New Jersey, about 4 miles south of Elizabeth, after being injured in an altercation with police. Shots were fired and at least one officer was shot, police sources said.

Rahami was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear.

The confrontation happened at about 10:30 a.m., when an owner of a Linden bar reported that someone was sleeping in a hallway of his establishment, Linden Mayor Derek Armstead told ABC New York station WABC.

"One of our police officers went to investigate and to wake him up, and realized that he was [Rahami], the suspect that had been being sought in the bombings," the mayor told WABC. "He realized it was the suspect and, within moments, the suspect fired on him. And thank God that he had his vest on. And I think that was very helpful for him. I think that saved his life."

Sources say that federal prosecutors have drafted charges against Rahami.

An alert sent shortly before 8 a.m. today says police were seeking a man in connection with the Saturday night bombing in New York City, identified by authorities as 28-year-old Rahami. He is believed to be the man seen in surveillance video at both the scene of the explosion on Manhattan’s West 23th Street and the scene on West 27th Street where the unexploded device was found, a police source said.

Philippine President Duterte says that 100,000 people would be killed during his tenure as the president

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has asked for a six-month extension for his war on drugs, saying there are too many people involved in the narcotics trade and he "cannot kill them all".

Some 3,000 people have been killed since Duterte won May elections in a landslide on a vow to kill tens of thousands of criminals in an unprecedented blitz to rid the country of illegal drugs in six months.

"I did not realise how severe and how serious the drug menace was in this republic until I became president," Duterte, 71, told reporters late Sunday in his southern home city of Davao.

Launching his crackdown was like letting "a worm out of the can" he said, adding that he wanted "a little extension of maybe another six months" to try and finish the job.

"Even if I wanted to I cannot kill them all because the last report would be this thick," he said, referring to a new police list of people including top officials suspected of being involved in the drugs trade.

Police say they have killed 1,105 drug suspects in the slightly more than two months since Duterte took office.

Another 2,035 have been murdered by unknown assailants, with human rights monitors saying these could be vigilantes, emboldened by Duterte's repeated calls for the public to help him kill criminals.

The crackdown has drawn severe criticism from the United States, the European Union parliament and the United Nations over what they say are extrajudicial killings.

Duterte has rejected the criticism, calling US President Barack Obama a "son of a whore" and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon a "fool", and vowing to continue his campaign -- which is proving hugely popular domestically and boosting his poll ratings.

Duterte promised on the campaign trial that 100,000 people would be killed during his crackdown and so many bodies would be dumped in Manila Bay that fish would grow fat from feeding on them.

Days after his election win, Duterte also offered security officials bounties for the bodies of drug dealers, and has repeatedly pledged to protect police from prosecution over the killings.

He argued that these robust measures are necessary to prevent the country becoming a "narco-state".

Duterte was speaking at a news conference to announce the safe recovery of a Norwegian man, who had been held hostage for a year in the country's south by Islamic militants, who had beheaded two Canadian men captured at the same time.

Video: FBI looking for a 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami in connection with Manhattan Bombing

Authorities are urgently searching for a "person of interest" in the New York City explosion, identified as 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami, according to a memo circulated by the NYPD.

The FBI also released a wanted poster for Rahami with his photo, saying he is "wanted for questioning" related to the bombing. Rahami is a U.S. citizen originally born in Afghanistan, the FBI said. He is considered armed and dangerous.

FBI detains 5 suspects in connection to Chelsea bombing

FBI agents have arrested five men who may be connected to Saturday’s bombing in Chelsea after stopping their car in Brooklyn, FBI sources said.

The men were heading over the Verrazano Bridge from Staten Island when they were stopped Sunday night.

Sources said the FBI suspected the men may have had a role in the bombing and were questioning them at the FBI headquarters in Manhattan.

Update from the NYPD: About an hour ago, the FBI took several individuals into custody on the Belt Parkway in the area underneath the Verrazano Bridge, with a possible connection to the bombing last night in Chelsea

It is believed the men, who live in New Jersey, were heading to the airport when they were busted.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Transit says service on the Northeast Corridor line has been suspended between Newark and Elizabeth because of police activity near Elizabeth.

A source said that at least one explosive device was found at the train station in Elizabeth.

Sunday’s bombing in New York left 29 injured when a small bomb went off on West 23rd Street. Another device was found on 27th street, but it did not explode.

Also, officials were investigating if the two New York bombs were connected to a bomb that went off at a charity road race in Seaside Park, NJ, that occurred on the same day.

We did a traffic stop of a vehicle of interest in the investigation. No one has been charged with any crime. The investigation is continuing
