The World Pension Summit ‘Africa Special’ is a yearly specialized Summit for Africa which is held in collaboration with the National Pension Commission of Nigeria. The first edition was held in Nigeria in 2014 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Nigerian Pension Reform Act of 2004.

Police arrested Cascade Mall shooter in Washington

Authorities said that the gunman believed to have opened fire with a rifle at a washington state mall, killing five people, has been captured on Saturday a day after the attack.

Authorities identified the shooter as Arcan Cetin, 20, a resident of Oak Harbor, Washington. Police said that he was taken into custody without incident in Oak Harbor.

The gunman began shooting at the Cascade Mall around 7 p.m. local time on Friday in the cosmetics section of a Macy's department store, killing four women as well as one man who died later at a hospital. Police said.

Police also told reporters nothing is yet known about Cetin's possible motive but they were not ruling out anything, including terrorism. They described his demeanor when apprehended as "zombie like," and said he was unarmed.
They said he was born in Turkey, and described his status as that of a "legal, permanent resident" in the United States.

Surveillance video from the mall in Burlington, around 65 miles (105 km) north of Seattle, showed the gunman walked into the shopping center without a rifle, but later caught him brandishing the weapon, Mount Vernon Police Lieutenant Chris Cammock said

The rifle was later recovered at the mall, said Cammock, commander of the Skagit County Multi-Agency Response Team.

Authorities have not identified the victims, but local media said they ranged in age from mid-teens to mid-90s, and included a mother and her daughter.

Steve Sexton, the mayor of Burlington, described the shooting as a "senseless act."

"It was the world knocking on our doorstep and it came to our little community here," he said before acknowledging the response by law enforcement. "I know now our support goes with them to bring this son of a bitch to justice."

The mall attack followed a series of violent outbursts at shopping centers across the United States, including the stabbing of nine people at a Minnesota center last weekend.

"We have no indication that we have a terrorism act," said Michael Knutson, assistant special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Seattle office. "I can't discount that, but I can't conclude it either."

Cetin's family, who immigrated from Turkey when Cetin was a child, was said to be cooperating with authorities.

Police told reporters the suspect had one prior arrest for "simple assault." He was due to appear in court on Monday.

The mall remained closed on Saturday as investigators sifted for evidence and attempted to recreate the crime scene.

Watch Video: Read how this 34-year-old became America's newest billionaire

It’s remarkable to sell your company for $900 million. But it only gets sweeter when you find out you’ve become a billionaire in the process.

Div Turakhia, 34, sold his 5-year-old ad-tech company, Media.net, to Beijing-based Miteno Communication Technology last month. The near-billion dollar acquisition is the third-largest in the industry’s history, behind Microsoft’s (MSFT) acquisition of aQuantive for $6 billion in 2007 and Google’s (GOOGL, GOOG) purchase of DoubleClick for $3 billion also in 2007.

The Media.net deal stands out in the competitive ad-tech industry. Apart from a few hot exits, including Wednesday’s IPO of California-based The Trade Desk, the ad-tech industry has cooled down significantly.

Turakhia said Media.net’s primary differentiator is its focus on the technology behind auto-generating ads on websites.

“More than 1,000 ad tech companies have been funded, but very few of them have a large enough platform,” he told Yahoo Finance in an interview Thursday. “Most of them have been so focused on sales and marketing.”

Media.net by the numbers

Media.net delivers more than 800 million paid ad clicks every year to advertisers, most of which are large publishers. Last year, the company generated $48 million in net income. Undeniably, Turakhia’s ability to generate profits as a private company contributed to Media.net’s appeal to potential buyers: Turakhia whittled down the final list to seven bidders.

Media.net received offers of around $700 million to $750 million, mostly from the private equity world. But ultimately, he said, Miteno was the best fit not only because it offered the highest bid, but also because it opens the door to China — the world’s second largest ad-tech market.

“If you don’t have a local partner you can’t really grow in China, so we saw this as a huge advantage,” he said.

And with 90% of Media.net’s revenues coming from the US, this deal allows Turakhia to double down on international expansion, particularly in Asia and Europe.

Bootstrapping the business

When building the company, Turakhia did not take any venture capital and owned 100% of Media.net prior to the sale; it was funded entirely by the profits of his other companies.

“I didn’t raise separate funds for it. Bootstrapping is definitely harder … but this is also not my first bootstrap business. I’ve built a bunch of businesses with my brother, and they were all bootstrapped. I’ve been able to identify what I can build,” he said.

Ultimately, Turakhia says he’s always followed his passion and hasn’t sought out money — though making the billionaire list doesn’t hurt, of course.

“It’s never about the money. The money is great because it allows you to keep score. It allows you to know you’re moving in the right direction when you’re building incredible things,” he said. “If you’re really passionate and you build cool things, the money will follow.”

Niger Delta Avengers end ceasefire, bomb crude oil Export pipeline in Bonny

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, have ended their ceasefire as the group attacked the Bonny 48 inches crude oil Export Line yesterday evening at about 8.40pm. The group announced the new attack on its website. Read the statement below On the 23rd September 2016, our strike team at 20:40PM hours time has brought down oil productions activities at the Bonny 48 inches crude oil Export Line.

This action is a signature to the over dramatization of the so-called dialogue and negotiation process on the side of President Muhammadu Buhari and his government. Since, the cessation of hostilities and the commitment of the PAN Niger Delta Elders and stakeholders team, the Nigerian government and her agents are turning the expectations of the Niger Delta to shameful scenes obtainable in Nollywood acts and as well intimidations, blackmails and continuous profiling of Niger Delta sons and daughters.

This is only a wake up call; we may not have other way to say it better. We are still in favour of the dialogue and negotiations but we are warning against " the peace of our time!

We want the peace with honour”. We will resist all actions undermining the ceasefire from side of the government and it security agents/ agencies. The world is watching, time is running against the Nigerian state; while we were promised that the concerns of Niger Delta will be addresses once a truce is declared, the activities of the government and her agents are not assuring enough, there has been no progress and no breakthrough.

We cannot be continuously fooled, the government cannot justify the indiscriminate targeting of Niger Delta youths while glorifying on these victimization of law abiding citizens of the region.

Make una leave Patience -Charly Boy

The latest unconfirmed gist heating up the social media is about former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who is spitting fire on EFCC for freezing her accounts containing about 6.3 billion Naira, claiming that she is being deprived of her right to her hard-earned money. Yes o, however you wan look am, she worked for that money!

Why are people suddenly upset? Isn't it the same Naija people who have been shouting, "bring back our corruption", since the country slipped into recession? Dia ris God ooooo!!!

Since 1978 or so, we have been living on corruption money, and hailing the thieves. Haba Naija, I tire for una. Abegi make we hear word and make we read something useful on this social highway. Una dey provoke say dem see billions for Mama Peace account.

And so?

When will we ever learn? Yes, a country deserves the kind of leadership it gets because those who rule us are from amongst us, they are not from Ghana or Togo. How many times will we let a thief into our house? The first time should be enough. The second time, lets take that as one chance. The third time means we are stupid. If we, the followers are not like our leaders, why haven't we done anything to stop the looting of our resources??

Countries that don’t have brave youths, prosecutors, fearless judges, good policing and fearless citizens will instead, have plenty of thieves, many killers and even stupid leaders. Since we have settled for people deceiving people and it has become our way of life let's roll over and die or accept everything we see that assaults our intelligence and impoverish us.

Wetin???

For if you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners to be corrupted from their infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded from this, but that you first make thieves and then punish them?

We have been living on corruption money long before now and we didn't care.

I know that looters will be looted, while time and tide will make most of us mercenaries . For long, our leaders have used deception and misdirection as their tools. We don’t believe in hard work, when a false face and a good line of bullshit can do so much more.

As for us the masses, we are all waiting for our turn to steal something from some place, Kai, our mumu is vexing me joor.

So how can we effectively create this new dawn when most of us are all guilty.

Now Baba has come to fight corruption, but I can swear that he is alone in this fight. Because most of the people in his kitchen are corrupt. Yes o.

Till there are grave consequences for people who break the law, people who steal public funds, known corrupt people who are till today in leadership positions, nothing will change. This too will come to pass and nothing go happen. Dem go settle, and back to business as usual.

Has anyone one been thrown into prison since this war on corruption started? My people, abegi, make we use our brain.

I just pray that one day one day, there will be no hiding place for people who ruined this country.

For those who took what they didn't earn, may judgement await them! It is only from then that things will begin to truly change.

The injustices stink...tufiakwa!!!

I don talk my own sha.
