Americans and the Obamas honours Dr. Martin Luther King Jr


Today, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama honoured Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy at the Jobs Have Priority Naylor Road Family Shelter in Washington, D.C.

The Obamas joined residents of the family shelter in painting a “Wall of Hope” mural, depicting King surrounded by butterflies, on one wall of the shelter’s community room. Across the country, King’s memory is honoured on #MLKDay through acts of service

Above, King speaks in Eutaw, Alabama in June 1965. The Baptist minister led the #CivilRights Movement by peacefully pursuing a vision of racial justice. He was assassinated in 1968.

Americans honor King’s legacy on #MLKday, in memory of his birth on Jan. 15, 1929.
