According to Standard Media, Mwirigi is currently a 300-level university student whose campaign was financed by his supporters. .
On holidays, he worked as a bike rider in Maua town. He ran as an independent candidate, while his rival, Joseph Mwereria, contested on a Jubilee Party ticket.
