Angela Merkel has won a fourth term as German Chancellor -- but Germany's election has seen a surge in support for the far right AfD party, which will take seats in parliament for the first time.
SPD leader Martin Schulz called the result a "bitter disappointment" as his party was consigned to opposition, having been in coalition with Merkel's CDU. When the final results of the vote are announced on Monday, coalition talks will begin.
