As a Nigerian, i didn't see that joke as a racist joke. But the lesson is to never joked at your job, because if you joked at your job, that means you are joking with your job. And it can lead to sack letter. British Airways should recall her back to her job, because i think she must have learnt a big lesson.
The British Airways hostess who filmed a Snapchat video where she made a racist ‘joke’ about Nigerian passengers has been sacked.
Joanne Wickenden is no longer an employee of the airline after the clip of herself, that was captioned ‘I can’t cope with this flight’, made its way online.
The minute-long video showed her swearing and making racist jokes about Nigerians and British Airways took action after they were made aware of the content.
A spokeswoman said in a statement: “We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways.”
Ms Wickenden made comments about the genitalia of male Nigerian passengers whilst mimicking their accents and making suggestive gestures.
She says in the clip: “All the Nigerians are gonna be there like ‘gimme Coca Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.
“And I’m just gonna be there like, ‘Sorry sir, we ran out of beef’.”
Using the term ‘BBC’ as a reference to their genitalia, she adds: “All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven’t got enough leg room because their BBCs are in their way.”
A friend of Ms Wickenden defended the flight attendant’s video, telling Mailonline: “She’s not racist, it was a joke between two friends.
“It wasn’t meant to be racist. She is not saying she dislikes Nigerians and she’s not saying that anyone is better than anyone else.”
